The sixth volume of the chemistry book deals with the inorganic and organic topics catering to the undergraduate course (sixth semester/DSE) of CBCS. This primarily meets the requirements of students who have enrolled in B.Sc (Prog./General) course of CBCS curriculum. The course material of volume VI is reflected in seven chapters alongwith inorganic and organic practicals as mentioned in the curriculum.
The Inorganic section of the book covers three chapters: First chapter is the chemistry of 3d metals pertaining to the oxidation states displayed by few transition metals as prescribed in the syllabus. Preparation and properties of important transition metal compounds and complexes. Next chapter deals with the definition and classification of organometallic compounds viz methyl lithium, zeise’s salt and ferrocene. Preparation and properties as well as structure and bonding of mono nuclear and polynuclear carbonyls of 3d metals, synergic effect etc. The third chapter of inorganic portion of this book covers Bio-Inorganic Chemistry. which starts with its introduction followed by the discussion of the role of various metal ions in biological system including Mg and Fe.
SECTION A: Inorganic Chemistry
1. Chemistry of 3d metals
2. Organometallic Compounds
3. Bio-Inorganic Chemistry
SECTION B: Organic Chemistry
1. Polynuclear Hydrocarbons (Naphthalene and Anthracene)
2. Heterocyclic Compounds(Pyrrole, Furan, Thiophene and Pyridine)
3. Active Methylene Compounds (Ethylacetoacetate)
