Jane Austen was an English novelist in the Georgian era. She is best known for her six major novels which include Emma, and Sense and Sensibility. She has since inspired a large number of critical essays and literary anthologies.
Her writing interprets, critiques, and comments upon the British landed gentry at the end of the 18th century. She used irony and realism in romance novels, something that wasn’t seen often during that time period.
While not widely known in her time, Austen’s gained popularity after 1869, and her reputation skyrocketed in the 20th century.
Her novels have inspired many films and television shows.
